Aidan Laimbeer started his career as an assistant surveyor, later progressing to a surveyor. Whilst working he studied for a Civil and Structural Engineering degree at South Bank University. After graduating in the late 80’s he was asked to remain at the University to lecture in Land Survey and carry out post graduate studies into ‘Soil Structure Interaction of Deep Foundations’. It was here he first became familiar with automated geotechnical and structural monitoring. In 1993 he worked as an overseas project manager for Soil Instruments, specifically on large dam constructions. He successfully coordinated and delivered large scale monitoring projects in remote areas of the world and mentored local engineers who then maintained the systems installed. In 1999 he returned to the UK to work on major projects as a freelance instrumentation engineer. Later Aidan took up employment with Mott MacDonald as a monitoring specialist specifically for the Heathrow Terminal 5 construction, his knowledge of automated instrumentation, tunnelling techniques, geotechnics and contractual management grew steadily throughout this time. Following work with a consultant Aidan returned to contracting and spent 11 years working as business development manager for Soldata Limited, providing business and technical support to a company that grew significantly during this time. Aidan now works for the wireless sensor/systems provider, Senceive Ltd, as the Business Development Director, where he continues to work on a range of large scale monitoring projects both in the UK and around the world.
