Highways England , principal geotechnical advisor
David has worked as a geotechnical specialist working across a broad spectrum of areas of technical application and for a range of private and public sector organisations for approaching 41 years. The range of activities has included inception studies, investigations, design, construction and maintenance management of civil and military infrastructure in the UK and overseas as well as mineral extraction, and the restoration of sites subjected to historic mining and quarrying. He has had a lead responsibility for much of this work for over 30 years. Building on this experience he has (since 2001) led the introduction/implementation of geotechnical asset management standards, procedures, guidance and services into the business and the recognition of the importance of effective management of this primary asset in associated policy, strategy, licencing requirements and financial bidding. Throughout this period, David has also led the development of geotechnical knowledge development through the R&D programme, both establishing the forward programme/strategy for this work, coordination within and across directorates and across the supply chain and collaboration partners (in industry and academia) as well as managing a large number of individual tasks under this programme.
